Blogging is not just about writing a blog post, promoting it and then relaxing, waiting for the next time you’ll write another blog post. No! There are some daily routine that you need to do when you’re not blogging or writing a blog post. Just like the domestic work you do at home, blogging has its domestic work too.
blogging chores you can’t neglect
I’m a kind of person that forget things easily so all I did was to write down my blogging domestic work on a spread sheet and check every day to make sure that I didn’t miss any of the most important chores to be done. If you know you’re like me, I’ll advice you to write down these routine that I’ll be mentioning on a spread sheet so you won’t omit any of them.
Tweet your older post
For those of us that don’t post daily, you don’t have to dump your blog till your next blog post. Find time to promote your older post using twitter. You can also automate your tweets using softwares like hootsuit, tweetadder and others, queue up your tweets and schedule them. With this your followers won’t miss your tweets even if there’s any previous tweet that they’ve missed. It might be just a routine but we all know that social media is a great way of generating traffic.
Engage with your followers on facebook
Facebook is another daily chore that mustn’t be omitted but most bloggers prefer using twitter than facebook. Your facebook page should not be about your blog post only but try to engage with your readers. You can post about what’s happening around you or whatsoever it is. All you have to do is to try to create a conversation with your followers and also reply to any relevant questions in their comment. It’s a great way of bringing your readers closer to you and gaining their trust
Visit blogs in your niche
Visiting blogs in your niche is a great way to get more ideas and knowledge on some particular topic. Who knows, the blog content can give you more ideas on your next blog post. You can also post a comment on the blog, this is my favorite and I’m an addict when it comes to blog commenting. All I did was write a list of high PR blogs and comment on at least ten of them daily with genuine and outstanding comment. I also spend time reading the blogs of some of my readers and commenters (in my niche) and dropping a comment on their blog. To me its fun and at the same time, a way of creating connection with bloggers, generating traffic and getting backlinks which I call traflink. The more your backlinks, the more you’re increasing your page rank, it’s no more a new story.
As a blogger, you don’t have to be selfish, try to promote others in a way that they’ll notice what you did by sharing their blog posts on social media or social communities. For example, if I should submit your blog post on bizsugar, you’ll get a pingback telling you that someone mentioned your content. They’ll love it when they see it and they’ll also love to do the same by promoting you too. I’m sure you’re well aware of communities; these are places where you meet likeminded bloggers and create connections with them. My favorite is bizsugar, there are more out there like inbound, blokube, tagza and indiblogger. You can share peoples content, vote other blog post and also comment on their submission. They definitely do the same if you have any submission.
I’m a fan of forums and it has really helped my blog. All I did was, look for questions that you know and are sure of that you can answer, reply to those questions with a helpful answer or you can also create a new helpful thread if you have the time. Readers are going to thank you you’re your helpful answer or post and they’ll be curious to know the person behind such a helpful answer by visiting your blog.
Brainstorming is a great way of getting more content ideas for your blog and a great thing to do at your leisure time of blogging. I’m always with a pen wherever I go and whenever I get a blog content idea, all I do is jot it down. Compiling a list of these great contents can lead to a helpful and quality blog post.
These are most of the things I do in my leisure time of blogging which I call my everyday blogging chore. If you have any blogging routine or chore which you do also, please do share them with us.
