I was using ShareBar WordPress plugin and now found a better floating sharebar for you to enjoy!
Nobody can ignore the increasing influence of social networks on traffic, link popularity and search engine ranking. Google announces social network popularity is one of the ranking factor in its algorithm. Having your blog posts spread wide over social networks certainly counts towards your blogging success. Benjamin wrote a nice post about this topic – Click here to visit his post.
I’ve tried many solutions to integrate the vote and like buttons of social networks like Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, Google+, Pinterest and so on. From custom coding the button to using different plugins such as DiggDigg, ShareBar and so on, I tried and now come up with a better floating sharebar.
The ShareBar plugin I was using was fine enough – contained pre-built buttons for most popular networks; allowed you to create new buttons and that is always visible while scrolling – but after Pinterest got recent fire and there is no direct way out to add code for this button on ShareBar, I set out to look for another plugin.
Are you too looking ways to add Pinterest Pin It button on your blog? Then this plugin can best suite for you too!
GetSocial – a better floating sharebar for your blog
GetSocial is a nice light weight plugin developed by Riyaz Sayyad. Yes, I just switched from ShareBar to GetSocial plugin. It somehow looks like ShareBar; contains most of its feature and more than that; it has ready to go buttons immediately you activate it. The pre-built buttons contains Facebook, Twitter, Google +1, StumbleUpon, Pinterest Pinit, Digg, Linked in and Buffer button. Are they not more than enough? You can turn on/off each of those buttons and add new buttons if you need any other. Get Social offers easy drag and drop feature to order the buttons to appear on floating bar.
How to Install Get Social WordPress Plugin?
It is nothing different from installing any other WordPress Plugin. You can do a search on Add New plugin page in Dashboard and click on Install link. However there can be a few issues. It first appeared that my blog crashed after activating it, but it was just a requirement not met in theme. I’ll show you how to resolve if you encountered any of these issues.
But, before that, you can download the plugin (in case, you did not find with search) and upload to install in WordPress blog. Follow the procedure below:
- Extract and upload the getsocial folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
- Go to Settings page and adjust the options as described there.
- Review and Save Changes.
- Floating social sharing box will now appear on all blog posts.
Issues You May Encounter
As I told you earlier, when installing Get Social, I was excited to see the ‘Pin it’ button on my blog! Unfortunately I found the blog got crashed after activating this plugin. Then I disabled the plugin, and everything is fine. What could be more disappointing that this? Confused and worried, I landed on the plugin developer’s homepage. Thanks to the continual update! Almost all of the issues you may encountered are listed on this page. In my case, the solution was damn easy. Just copy a line of code and paste it in the functions.php file. The bar rocks!
Rather than copying all those issues that Riyaz Sayyad has solved on that page, let me offer you the link so that you can contact him directly. Visit Get Social WordPress Plugin page and look at the FAQ section.
I believe this plugin will be useful to you too. I’m interested to know what plugins and methods you are using to share your post in the blogosphere and social networks. Waiting for your comments.

This is a plugin for self hosted WordPress blogs.
To be honest, I see these floating share bars around the place, but I have never personally clicked on any of the social icons myself, I am still used to reading the article, and then sharing at the bottom if I think it is worthy of sharing with my friends and colleagues

That’s nice Nimet. The beauty of floating bar is they are always present in front of reader ready for service if ever any reader wishes to share the content with their friends and connections. I often use these buttons to share in networks like Facebook, Twitter and StumbleUpon after I read and comment any post.

Hi Suresh, I’m using the Digg Digg plugin and I really like it so far. If I ever get issues with it I will try Socialize. Thanks for the review!

You are most welcome Ileane. I stumbled upon this plugin while searching for Pin it button. Glad, it works great!
I use really simple share plugin. A bit doubtful if all the previous social shares will remain intact if replaced with new social share plugins…

There are chances that you will need to specify settings when you install new plugins. But I guess, it won’t be a huge job.

I also think that “Get Social” is good plugins for Share Bar & you’re suggesting this plugins means that is proved this is a really good plugins but in my case I’m use Infolink on my blog and I activated InFrame options which overlaps this share bar, so I can’t use this Share bar.
Is there any good plugins for share buttons which I could place below the post to share my post?

I preferred to use JetPack for some of its awesome features. You can try its share feature to display the share buttons horizontal. But please, be informed that you must disable all of the features you are not going to use, otherwise it can be server expensive.
