Everybody dived into guest blogging – fellow bloggers, online marketers, seo experts and a whole lot of name-lesses who offer you the original and unique posts for free on one hand and on the other claim to provide high quality back links to their clients. Guest blogging evolved as a trend, all of a sudden and it is now irresistible.
The blogosphere has two hemispheres – those who accepts guest posts and those who do not. There are bloggers living in both part of this sphere – those who set out to guest blogging and those who do not.
I discussed in my earlier post “Why you must Stop guest blogging right now or do it the right way” and today I’m discussing the first hemisphere – should you accept guest posts in your blog or not?
Last post was for bloggers who wish to make some guest posting in other’s blog and today’s post is for blog owners who wish to offer guest blogging opportunity.
Why not to accept guest posts on your blog?
Though we looked at guest blogging phenomena from guest blogger’s side in last post and disseminated the pros and cons of guest blogging. The blog owner or the host’s side is not less interesting either.
There can be a numerous reasons why a large number of blog owners are not accepting guest blogging.
There are speculations that the next Google Algorithm update will hit the guest blogging. (Read Jeff’s post in Problogger.net: Why Blogs that Allow Guest Posts Will Be Penalized in 2013)
Just as low-level article directories (ezinearticles, articlesbase, and others) got hurt by Google’s Panda Update in 2013, I predict that Google will hurt sites abusing guest blogging in 2013.
I don’t feel guest blogging is bad, nor that all bloggers who do it will be penalized by Google. SEOMOZ.org allows guest blogging and their rankings increased during the Panda update. But when SEO companies start to abuse any link building tactic, you need a preventative plan in place because an update from Google will be coming.
Go through Jeff’s post to learn how you can stay safe for 2013 if you accept guest posts. Here I list why you should not accept guest posts.
#1. All they want is your link juice! The free link back!
This is blatant truth and thus, pay additional attention. Compare ‘what you give and what you get’. Back link in the market is not the cheapest commodity. One text link from a PR 3 blog in the market costs not less than $30/month. When you allow guest posting, the guest author will enjoy two dofollow back links.
Does the post worth that money? Or you are simply making your blog too cheap?
#2. New Strategy of SEO Companies!
As the search engines become smarter and can detect the natural links and paid links, some folks got this new trend – the guest blogging – an easy method to get free back linking.
SEO Companies charge their clients a big bucks and plant the links for them in your blog – in the form of easy guest post. What they offer is a spanned article consisting 450 words. They’ll just meet your minimum requirement to make sure that the post gets published on your blog.
#3. Guest Author’s Intention
When you write posts on your own blog, you’ll make every effort to make it most useful and complete. But the intention of guest author is not to offer everything in a guest post. Naturally, all he/she wants is to prove authority and drive traffic to his/her own blog.
To achieve this, the guest author will introduce the problem, explain it properly so that you are convinced that solution is achievable and will try to drag you to his/her own blog for more.
Ready to loose your traffic this way?
#4. Reader’s Psychology
If you are my loyal reader and visit bivori.com to see my new post, how you’ll feel to find a post there from a complete stranger? Why would you come to my blog to read his post? Won’t you rather visit his own blog directly, if you wished to read what he says?
Make sure that the guest posts you published are really of high quality and interesting to your regular readers. Otherwise, it can harm and actually reduce the readership of your blog.
#5. Duplicate and Spun Content
This is really the biggest problem these days. Intelligent (?) SEO experts write one article and use some advanced tools to spun it and create several unique (?) articles. Accepting such posts adds no value to your blog. You are actually doing harm because search engines penalize for duplicate and low quality pages.
Oh! It appears too many harm for the blog owner. Yes, there are more risks if you are not smart enough and don’t select posts wisely!
However, there are some benefits of accepting guest posts. Lets look at them now.
Why should you accept guest posts?
Yesterday evening, I was reading through Jay Krishna’s post in Ajnabii.com. He has listed the reasons why you should start guest posting. After going through his post, I made up my mind to complete it by filling up the other half part of the topic. Thus this post stands!
If you read Jay’s post, you’ve got most of it already. The benefits are more obvious and I believe you’re well aware of it. Let me list some of the most startling benefits here:
- You get more time to compose better posts or promote your blog.
- Your readers get fresh content even when you are busy or engaged in some other tasks.
- You get more content and it can earn you by displaying Ads or linking to Affiliate pages.
- You’ll get helping hand to promote your blog if your guest authors share the post in their social networks and profile
- If you do it right, it will help you to improve ranking of your blog. Alexa improves with post frequency and Google also ranks fresh and updated content better.
- Because the post frequency and ranking is higher, you’ll get more comments on your blog.
- Your blog develops as self surviving. There are many blogs such as basicblogtips.com that is rocking with new posts and huge comments. The blog owner enjoys time to promote and involve in social networking.
