I’ve already watched a good number of GoogleWebmasterHelp Videos, and always find Matt successful in making you more confused than you were before watching it.
I got an email this morning (as I’ve subscribed to that YouTube channel) and it immediately grabbed me because the question was about WordPress or Blogger in terms of SEO.
Vicky asked:
I’ve used Blogger for 3 years, but now everyone tells me that WordPress is superior for SEO. After scouring many sites, I’ve been unable to find the SEO advantages to using Blogger – are there any?
And watch here what Matt has to say:
The question was “the SEO advantages to using Blogger – are there any?”
Matt answers:
- Great question
- I work for company that provides Blogger, one of my personal blog uses WordPress, so I can see the advantages in both sides!
- Blogger is simple to get started, it is very easy.
- If you install the software yourself, you usually not patching it, so, its easier to get hacked.
- WordPress has a lot of flexibility, you customize everything
- They both have pros and cons. Both can work very well in terms of ranking well and in terms of search engine
- Definitely try the both out because both can work very well in terms of SEO
What? Shall I make two copies of my blog ? One in WordPress and the other in Blogger? Damn!
Is Matt comparing WordPress.com and Blogger or self hosted WordPress and Blogger? Did Matt really answered the question?
I don’t think Matt does not know what SEO is, and also, I don’t think Matt does not understand what Vicky asked. But do you expect Matt to offer such an answer to this question? Why should we wait for official videos from Google if it is the political answers, all that we get? Is there any use to subscribe to GoogleWebmastersHelp channel?
What would be your answer to Vicky’s question if you were Matt Cutts? Are you satisfied with whatever information Matt offered? Waiting to hear your voice. Please do comment.

If not for anything at all, one interesting and unique thing about blogger is that, it can’t be hacked.

Hahaaa… very good point Kabenlah, but I’m afraid if Google hacks itself. You never know when your posts are deleted or your blog is removed without notice. Very painful isn’t it? Is it less than getting your blog hacked?
Suresh Khanal recently posted…WordPress Vs. Blogger – A Never Ending Debate And Matt Cutts Makes You More Confused!
But Suresh, let face the fact. Do you think Google can ever be hacked? To me, I guess they are more secured and also more reliable.

Kabenlah, I can’t suspect that blogs in Blogger will be hacked. What I mean is that, Google itself may delete your posts and in some cases your whole blog without informing you. Moreover all the content you publish in Bloggers blog, it belongs to Google! It can do anything with it.
If you have self-hosted blog, you have total control over your blog. That’s all I pointed out
Cheers! Happy blogging!

Hi Suresh,
He didn’t focus on SEO at all, he was in noway going to say that WP is better than blogger. Infact he believed that blogger cannot be hacked so one should use blogger instead.
Shockingly he uses Wordpress.
Thanks for this share.

That’s what wonders me more. The question was how Blogger is more beneficial from SEO perspective!
I guess he is bound to talk about Blogger because he is working in Google but favors WordPress for his own blogs!
Suresh Khanal recently posted…WordPress Vs. Blogger – A Never Ending Debate And Matt Cutts Makes You More Confused!
No doubt or second opinion in it. Blogger rocks!!! Blogger is 2,000 times better than Wordpress I am using both platforms and also I am master in both. So Judgement is correct one. Suresh Khanal
I like your quote “I don’t think Matt does not know what SEO is, and also, I don’t think Matt does not understand what Vicky asked. But do you expect Matt to offer such an answer to this question? Hi Perambur, glad to see you comfortable with Blogger and it truly awesome for anybody who don’t want to waste their time with technical aspects of blogging. However having a self-hosted blog allows you to have total control over your blog. There will be no other master of your blog!
What wondered me is why Matt did not compared SEO between these two platforms.
Suresh Khanal recently posted…WordPress Vs. Blogger – A Never Ending Debate And Matt Cutts Makes You More Confused!
Whether matt compare blogger and wordpress in terms of SEO or not I tell one thing. In terms of SEO
I have so much experience in that (I am not proud of myself) Infact I leared almost most 540 algorithms out of 550 it’s huge learning process. From my experience I tell one thing
If your blog is SEO Friendly one and your are using correct SEO Plugin you have already submitted your XML sitemap to Google webmaster tools and so on your blog post listed in Google search results within 3 minutes.
Infact most of my blog posts listed in Google within 3 minutes from the time of publishing. But if you’re publishing on blogger platform then it will take 3 days to index.
The same old story blogger template is SEO friendly one and you must use all to tag according to your needs. Description, Blockquote and so on.
But final conclusion if there is any competition in terms of keyword(s) or phrase then blogger will be the winner.
Wordpress lose its place in Top of the search results. Blogger blogs stays there for a long time.
If you conduct seminar on this I will speak in this topic for more than 6 hours.

I switched from blogger to wordpress because I wanted to “own” my own site. So maybe it was just psychological. Though I like all the plugins. Then again, do I need them all? Hard to know whether it was the right decision or not.

Sandra,
Its always a good decision to have you OWN blog. Don’t die for plugins. Make sure that you really need them if you are going to install any new plugin. Do not overload your blog.
Thank you for the visit and commenting here.

I am new to blogging. And now have a blog on Wordpress. I worked on a self hosted Blogspot blog for some time, before I created a new one on WP.
Blogspot does not give you half as many options as WP does- the latter is much more user friendly as well.
No idea about the techicalities, though.

That’s very correct Ambika – BlogSpot does not give you half as many options as WordPress and at the same time WordPress gives four times more troubles than BlogSpot until you really learn how to manage hosting and blog
Anyway, learning offers more power and you can build up more powerful blogs. Stay ready to face and learn a huge lessons!

Since I have just started blogging with a blogspot address, as a newbie, I want to know whether I can register a domain name in blogger and paid hosting (for eg from example.blogspot.com to example.com) instead of going to WP? Will then am I be able to get control of my site without google deleting posts or even the blog as mentioned in the article above? Or is it better to migrate my blogspot to WP getting my own domain and hosting?

Rajan,
You have total control over your blog only when you have your own hosting. As long as you host in Blogger or WordPress or any other free blogging platform, you are bound to respect their TOS. They may delete posts or blog if it ever violates.
You can register your won domain name and make it point to the existing Blogger blog, but this does not offer you total control. I suggested you to buy your own domain name because, at least you have your own name. This way you’ll have same blog URL no matter where you host.
If you are really serious about blogging and see the profits in your niche, it is best to buy hosting and domain name. Still, please be aware that you need to learn some hosting and domain management skills to run your own blog.

Yes, the debate about blogger and wordpress is never ending.

But here is what i think : If you are beginner don’t have money to pay for hosting then choose blogger if else you want to do blogging professionally spend few buck for hosting. That’s it. Now Debate Ended
